Cherokee Cornmeal Cookies

I just had to share this recipe with you. My daughter needed to cook something Native American to go with her presentation at 4-H this week. She decided on a cookie recipe that came from an early 1820's cookbook.

They are so DELICIOUS!

Thankfully the ingredients were simple and already stocked in my cabinets.

I bet you have the ingredients too! Give these a try!

These taste like sugar cookies and vanilla wafers with a light cornmeal texture.

Cherokee Corn Meal Cookies
(Se-Lu I-Sa U-Ga-Na-S-Da)

Cream together:
3/4 cup butter (we had used 1.5 sticks of real butter)
3/4 cup sugar
add the following ingredients; until smooth:
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
add and mix well:
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

Drop dough from tablespoon on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees
about 15 minutes until lightly browned. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen.

Enjoy!
