Pedernales Falls State Park

I stayed home while Alan and uncle Mike headed for Pedernales Falls State Park today. Originally I was to go, but I was too tired after pulling a graveyard at the women's shelter. I dragged all day yesterday after I got home from work in the morning. I operated on less than 3 hours sleep yesterday and today I still felt groggy.

Sooo, the girls (Pamela had a sleepover) swam in the pool all day long while I tinkered around the house. Here's the guy's photos (submitted by uncle Mike)... Looks like they had a great time!

Perdenalis is a really interesting park that is less than an hour's drive from our house. But you don't want to be there when it rains. This is probably the WORSE place to be as a flash flood could overtake you in a mere few minutes! Even if it's not raining in the area, but elsewhere. All it takes is a few minutes and waves of water will wash over the area. In fact, the trees bend in a certain direction as the floods rise several feet, sweeping everything in its path.

Pedernales River

The aqua life is amazing. Tiny caves and crevices and fish and wildlife in abundance. The area sports many waterfalls and boasts some of the most amazing swimming holes.

This is where we hit Bambi with our car last year. Just out of the blue, a young deer dashed in front of us in the middle of the road. We swerved to avoid her, but we hit her on the side. She was tossed into a ditch, with a broken leg. We had to stop by the ranger office to let him know. So sad!

Fortunately our car wasn't too damaged, and we were able to make it home.

The weather got up to a sweltering 95 today. Everyone is sporting sunburns! Feels like summer already.

I'll post an update on my garden soon.

No biggie, I've been to Pedernales twice before. I do plan to go again another day.

Pedernales is not for the weak of heart, those rocks are hard to hike across. I wore myself out, last time I went.
lots of fun though
