Snow in July...

Gosh, I don't know why I hadn't done it sooner, but today I dragged out my nostalgic snow cone machine. This nifty little machine was very affordable and will turn a bowl of ice cubes into yummy and refreshing snow cones! I purchased this last summer after realizing we were spending a small fortune downtown on Hawaiian shaved ice! This past week we got up to 105 degrees with no relief for this weekend!

You can find snow cone syrups in most stores, but I like to make my own.

Mix together:

1 packet of Kool-Aid

1/2 cup of sugar

1 cup of water

*I prefer using those picnic style ketchup/mustard bottles with the attached lid.

  2. I remember you telling me you had one.. my ice maker will make finely crushed ice and I've wondered how it would work to pour flavored syrup over it.. not quite the same but it might do in a pinch.
What you pictured sure looks refreshing and thanks for the "make your own syrup" recipe. There are so many things we can make ourselves and save money. I love Alton Brown's shows when he shows you how to save money by making things such as pop tarts and hot pockets.
So you ever watch him? Food channel at 10:00 pm every week night.

  3. No, haven't seen Alton, but you gave me ideas on poptarts. I bet your ice maker might work with the syrup. Try it for the grandsons and hand them a spoon.
